On my journey to Miami, I was more satisfied by the cultural neighborhoods and shops lining South Beach than the beaches themselves.

But even experienced travelers like me make errors. After checking out Southern Living’s take on Miami’s alter ego, I rapidly recognized I missed the boat– literally.

As such, we at Travel Off Course have covered many white-sand beaches this summertime and could not turn the page to fall without revealing Miami’s easygoing oasis far from the fancy hotels and dusk-til-dawn nightlife.

Away from the bustle of South Beach lies what feels like a covert village in the Caribbean, yet it’s just a stone’s throw from the madness (don’t toss rocks, kids).

If your ambiance is more carefully matched to the Florida Keys or Caribbean islands, then Secret Biscayne is what you’re searching for.
