Afternoon glow from my King Junior Suite Breakfast in bed with bubbles I just recently invested two nights at the new InterContinental Auckland, and wow, what a stay! Location-wise, it truthfully doesn’t get better than this. The hotel sits right on the CBD waterfront, at the extremely start of Queen Street, Auckland’s main shopping strip and straight opposite the Downtown Ferryboat Terminal, making it the ideal base whether you’re exploring the city or avoiding to Waiheke Island.
The hotel itself is streamlined and elegant, with 139 spaces and suites, some offering spectacular views over the Waitematā Harbour. I arrived a little outside the basic check-in time, however the process was seamless and the staff could not have been more inviting and useful, a great impression that set the tone for the rest of my stay.

Where I Remained: King Junior Suite Harbour View Rooms
Living area of the King Junior Suite Bed room with luxurious king-size bed I remained in a King Junior Suite Harbour View on the 10th flooring (room 1010 ), and it was honestly such a lovely area to call home for two nights. The suite featured a King-size bed and a semi-separate living location, plus a completely equipped minibar, a De’Longhi coffee machine and a charming selection of teas, which I absolutely made great usage of!
The light in the room was extraordinary at all hours of the day thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows throughout and being on the corner of the building implied I had a few of the very best views over Auckland’s harbour. The suite was thoughtfully created with elegant furnishings and little touches of high-end everywhere.

and personal privacy. It was a genuinely comfy first-class stay, complete with thoughtful touches, like the convenient filtered water tap simply actions from the space.

It was the best area to take a peaceful break from the city, with some great benefits consisted of. I had the à la carte breakfast here on my very first morning, which was beautifully presented and scrumptious.
There was also a little breakfast buffet with fresh fruit, breads and other extras. In the afternoon, they served light bites, sugary foods, and a choice of teas as part of their afternoon tea offering. One of my preferred parts of the day was returning for evening canapés and cocktails, a relaxed method to loosen up with a glass of white wine, a few small bites and some great city views after a complete day of exploring Auckland.
Lunch at Advieh Restaurant and Bar
Lunch at Advieh Dining establishment on level 1 Naturally, I had to get dessert I had lunch at the hotel’s on-site dining establishment, Advieh, which serves up Middle Eastern-inspired food in a beautifully designed area with harbour views and a front-row seat to the Downtown Ferryboat Terminal. I bought a couple of meals, however the standout for me was definitely the yellowfin tuna, fresh, flavourful and completely done. I enjoyed dessert out on the little balcony, absorbing the blissful fall sunlight, such a treat!
The dining establishment also has an excellent night vibe, with outstanding mixed drinks and a trendy yet unwinded atmosphere, whether you’re heading there for drinks or a complete supper.
Checking out the Surroundings
City views from Ponsonby Sundown at Viaduct Harbour One of the best features of remaining at InterContinental Auckland is simply how central and
walkable everything is. I enjoyed wandering along Queen Street for shopping, however also truly enjoyed getting lost in the little alleys and regional book shops around High Street and Fort Lane, a little more low-key and full of character. Simply next door to the hotel is Commercial Bay, a smooth shopping center with excellent dining options and some upscale shops, best for a bite to consume or a browse. The hotel is likewise a simple walk to the Viaduct Harbour and if you’re up for a walk uphill, Albert Park and the Auckland Art Gallery are nearby
too. You can reach the Sky Tower in about 10-15 minutes on foot, and the Downtown Ferry Terminal is literally across the street, suitable for outing to Waiheke Island (which I adore for the wineries and long lunches!). The Britomart train station is just a 2-minute walk, and getting to/from the airport was easy. My Uber from Auckland Airport (AKL) took about 30 minutes (depending upon traffic) and cost around NZ$ 50.
One area I furthermore enjoyed checking out was Ponsonby. It has a store feel, lovely houses and views back over the city and Sky Tower. Ponsonby Central is a must-visit and I extremely suggest Pastrami & Rye. Also take a look at Blue on Franklin, simply a little additional down the road.

With an unbeatable waterside area and views to match, it’s hard to find a better-positioned hotel simply steps from shopping on Queen Street, dining at Commercial Bay, ferryboats to Waiheke and whatever else the city has to offer. Whether you’re visiting for organization or leisure, the hotel strikes the best balance between elegant convenience and benefit. The rooms and suites feel luxurious yet welcoming and Club InterContinental access includes another level of service. Best of all, nighttime rates are sensible thinking about the level of service,
features and the prime place. I wouldn’t think twice to stay here again next time I’m in Auckland, it’s a five-star experience that provides both on comfort and value. Thank you to InterContinental Auckland, who welcomed me to stay. All opinions are my own.
