If you’ve ever visited Seoul, possibilities are you have actually heard of Ikseondong, the charming hanok village tucked away in the heart of the city. Most people explore it throughout the day, wandering its photogenic alleyways, drinking matcha in tiny cafés, and popping into regional stores. However here’s a little secret: Ikseondong at night hits different.
I usually visit this community when the sun’s out, but last winter, right after an over night solo trip to Nami Island, I met buddies Marc and T for a spontaneous late-night hangout, and honestly, it was among my preferred memories from that season.
Marc had actually invited us to Saeseoul(새서울), a funky, retro-inspired area located on the third flooring of the former Hotel Seine– which you might recognize as a recording area from Hotel Del Luna. Think dim lights, chill beats, imaginative cocktails, and even a mini arcade at the ground floor. Here’s what
we had on the table: Buffalo Wings & Fries– crispy, spicy, and perfect for sharing
Tomato Ragu Pasta– warm, abundant, and remarkably comforting
Ricotta with Honey Tomatoes– sweet, salty, velvety … simply wow
Ruby Martinis for Marc and me
Nutty Dirty for T (absolutely worth a try if you’re into vibrant flavors)

But this night advised me how refreshing it is to simply laugh aloud with pals … over cocktails, a couple of rounds of basketball game, and some funny (however unforgettable) picture booth shots.

Come for the food, remain for the vibes– and don’t be shocked if you stumble on a shooting area or 2 along the method!
