I search for chance to use FIP train tickets. There was Europen basketball champion 2025. Slovenian team was playing in Katowice, Poland. I bought ticket at Nomago for Saturday video game versus France, 400 PLZ (40EUR). So I prepared Brno and Katowice 2025.

Next train to Vienna was late 15 minutes. I had to change seats as I didn’t have appointment. For 3rd train I had few minutes to extend legs before continuing to Breclav. Last train for today was tricky, I was late thirty minutes, however train from Budapest to Brno was late 40 minutes, so I didn’t require to wait on next train 15 minutes.
Finally I remained in Brno. There I met with Tomaš and Štepan. After short walk to hostel in bunker 10Z I left my bag after checkin, 35EUR plus 10EUR deposit. I bought Pivovarský guláš z bratčického černého piva, houskový knedlík (goulash in regional beer with knedli-dumplings). It was delicious, bit spicy, big enough for supper. Tomaš paid, meal was around 11 EUR and Bratčice beer less then 2.5 EUR. Štepan left and with Tomaš we chose another drink at Radegast sportspub before going to sleep. They just accepted money, I paid hughe fee for atm, beer was around 2.3 EUR. Great talk again(life, kids, work, travel, cars and trucks … ). It is constantly great to satisfy individuals from Brno. Saturday Awakening early, after not excellent sleep on hard matres in cold space inside sleeping bag. It is OK alternative for one night because experience, but I wouldn’t take longer stay here. After restroom I left hostel and walked to train station. Otherwise breakfast and trip are included in price. Back to Breclav, first class, I ate canned tuna and got some water. There I waited less than half an hour before taking another train to Katowice, Enough time for brief walk. The last train arrived 2 hours late to Katowice.

Outside I fulfilled Ivo and we strolled to intrestingly designed arena Spodek (appears like UFO). We had a beer at platform before going into, 60PLZ (15EUR) for 4.
We got in and took our seat behind basket, 4th row, Maruša was in 5th. I didn’t have high expect video game however Dončić was great and we lost in last couple of minutes of the game a she couldn’t continue in exact same pace. Beer within was 20 +10 PLZ (7EUR with cup).
Because of basketball champion there was no space for decent price in Katowice. I took another train to Gliwice, 25km in 30 minutes, some rain. I oversleeped great Diament Economx Gliwica 3 star hotel for 45EUR, good rate performance. I dropped in store on my way (beer, cigarette, sandwich) and paid 10EUR. After shower and power nap I went out to inspect night life. Northing unique, at 3 am bars are closed and just kebab is opened.
Sunday Once again got up early and ate tuna before I had a look at. In light rain I walked to old town primary square Rynek and took Uber to Gliwice radio station (the reason for begining of WWII )and from there to train station, 7EUR. Before next train fast walk in Katowice old town. On
next train I remained in first class and I stratched on 3 seats, got bottle of water. In restaurant I ate pierogi for 200CZK (8+EUR). In Vienna I ran to next train, again first class. I took pleasure in Tatra beer and nuts. On this ride interesting part in alpine train around Semmering(high, curved, many nice views, tunnels, …).< img width= "576"height ="1024" src="https://i0.wp.com/drjamtravels.blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/20250831_141507_copy_675x12008295334511096212743.jpg?resize=576%2C1024&ssl=1"alt="Brno and Katowice 2025 12"/ > For last train I had just 5 minuts transfer time, any hold-up would meant waiting on a long period of time for next transportation option, paid 13.5 EUR. I got here before 8pm to Ljubljana, were sister picked me up and drove me home. I viewed TV and felt asleep on sofa. Summary Transportation was nearly totally free(FIP tickets with card 20EUR, train in Slovenia to Jesenice and from Maribor another 20EUR and uber 7EUR).
Together less then 50 EUR form 12 transportations, 1200km in 30 hours. For accommodation I paid 80EUR for 2 nights. Food(breakfast with me canned tuna and bread 2EUR, club sandwiches 2EUR, 3 main courses for 32EUR)and drinks(water I got for free on train, beer was from 1 EUR in shop to 7 EUR on video game, less then 3EUR in Brno and over 3EUR in Katowice in general ), 100EUR all together. With game ticket (90EUR), total quantity was less then 320EUR. Tiering but good experience, game was excellent but conference friends in Brno and Katowicw was even much better.
