- The order includes 20 777-9s, 20 787-10s, and options for 10 additional 787 Dreamliners, marking Korean Air’s largest deal with Boeing.
- This deal is integral to Korean Air’s ongoing integration with Asiana Airlines, following their merger last year.
Korean Air and Boeing announced today the finalization of a significant order for up to 50 widebody airplanes. The deal includes 20 777-9s, 20 787-10s, and has options for 10 more 787 Dreamliners. This order represents the biggest agreement between the two companies and will play an essential part in Korean Air’s ongoing integration with Asiana Airlines.
The deal, initially announced as a commitment at the 2024 Farnborough International Airshow, will now be incorporated into Boeing’s Commercial Airplanes’ Orders and Deliveries website.
“For over 50 years, Korean Air and Boeing have built a relationship based on trust and mutual growth. Today, we further strengthen our historic relationship with this landmark order,” said Walter Cho, chairman and CEO of Korean Air and Hanjin Group.
Following its merger with Asiana Airlines last year, Korean Air is transforming into one of the world’s largest airlines by capacity. It recently displayed its new branding and livery on a 787-10, as an initial step towards operating under a single entity. As part of these changes, Korean Air is refreshing its fleet with new fuel-efficient widebody jets to expand its global network.
“This record order is the culmination of our more than 50-year partnership with Korean Air and demonstrates the strength of Boeing’s market-leading widebody family,” said Dan Schull, Boeing’s vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Northeast Asia. “The combination of economic efficiency and range of the 777X and 787 Dreamliner will position Korean Air for continued growth and long-term success.”
