The scent hit us the moment we got out of the cars and truck– the earthy, sacred scent of burning copal. It was a fragrance that instantly cleaned the mind, indicating a departure from the everyday. This was the entryway to Our Habitas San Miguel de Allende, and our check-in wasn’t a transaction, however a ritual.
Caused a carpeted seating area with a low table and fragrant incense, our concierge welcomed us to close our eyes for a brief, centering meditation. As he carefully explained the Habitas viewpoint– a concentrate on health, neighborhood, and forging a genuine connection with nature– I felt the frenzied energy of the outdoors world liquified, changed by an extensive and instant sense of peace.
This was the start of our Countryside Culinary Journey, a weekend experience that assured to be more than simply an easy vacation. A Sanctuary on the Hillside The distinct ethos of Our Habitas is completely mirrored in its architecture and design. The residential or commercial property includes 60 private casitas dotted throughout the undulating hills of Valle de los Senderos. Each freestanding room is a personal sanctuary, surrounded by towering cacti, native trees, and seasonal wildflowers. The brand name’s dedication to sustainability appears in the minimalistic, earth-inspired design that allows the magnificent landscape to take center stage.
Our space featured natural textiles, earthy tones, and floor-to-ceiling windows that completely framed the view, removing the border in between inside and out. Awaiting us was a thoughtful welcome: a bottle of regional red wine and a charcuterie board packed with artisanal cheeses and meats. The resort had even enthusiastically prepared an extra bed for our daughter and a large, comfortable pet dog bed for our precious canine, Brownie.
The real magic of our casita, nevertheless, lay simply beyond the glass doors. They opened onto our personal deck and a sprawling, open field. For our daughter and Brownie, this was pure bliss. They invested hours running free, their joyful laughter and happy barks echoing in the crisp air. My husband and I saw them from our deck, beverages in hand, feeling more relaxed than ever.

A Cooking Class for the Household Our Countryside Culinary Journey began on Friday afternoon with a private cooking class in the hotel
‘s garden. With their cook as our guide, we found out the tricks to crafting the ideal guacamole from scratch, a hands-on experience that was both fun and delicious. My daughter absolutely liked getting her hands unclean and discovering to make something so easy yet deeply reassuring. After the experience, we gathered by a crackling fire pit, sipping on exquisitely revitalizing grapefruit cocktails specifically created by the talented internal mixologist.

Embarking on a Culinary Journey That night, we were treated to a phenomenal four-course private supper at Comunidad, the hotel’s signature farm-to-table restaurant. Real to its name, which indicates “community, “the restaurant is the social and cooking heart of the home, where their passion for genuine, fire-kissed food is palpable. The menu is a masterclass in local, sustainable cooking, commemorating the bounty of the Bajío area.
Our cooking journey began with a ceviche so fresh it tasted of the sea, honed with the ideal balance of tasty citrus, onion, and cilantro. This was followed by a bowl of charred corn esquites, an elevated take on the cherished street food classic, where the smoky kernels were improved with cotija cheese and a tip of spice.
For the main event, the braised short rib was so soft, tender and fall-off-the-bone, the outcome of slow-cooked excellence, served together with an abundant, complicated mole that mentioned deep cooking tradition. Each course was a revelation, an incredible showcase of Mexican tastes that, in its totality, easily ranks amongst the best dining experiences I’ve had in San Miguel de Allende.


Floating on a Hot Air Balloon On Saturday morning, we rose before dawn for a much-anticipated hot air balloon trip, a truly wonderful way to welcome the day. Unfortunately, we weren’t rather lucky with the weather; it was too cloudy to see anything. We drifted mostly over the extensive fields surrounding the city, and the experience was absolutely tranquil and relaxing. Floating silently above the awakening landscape provided a peaceful point of view of our own backyard; we even identified our own home from the air!
The rest of the day was spent doing something we rarely find the time for … absolutely nothing! There was no rush to the next activity, no schedule to keep. The day unfolded at its own gentle rhythm, dictated by the sun and our own inclinations. While my other half and child relaxed with books, I caught an euphoric nap on our sun-drenched deck with Brownie, lulled to sleep by the rustle of leaves and the far-off chirping of birds.

White wine and Art That night, we embraced our imaginative sides in a pinto y tinto( paint and sip)class led by the hotel’s resident artist. It was a splendidly unwinded and social event, where we discovered blending methods and shared stories with fellow visitors going to from Mexico City, reinforcing that sense of community Habitas cultivates so well.
Dinner was yet another culinary accomplishment– we delighted in succulent, fall-off-the-bone pork ribs and a steak scorched to outright perfection. In the poorly lit dining establishment, we relished every bite of our decadent meal and talked over candlelight. I was as soon as again swept my feet by their handcrafted mixed drinks, creatively prepared by their mixologist.


Settling back at the Natural Swimming pool Our Sunday early morning was invested cooling at La Playita beach club, gorgeous natural pools just a brief walk from our casita. The setting was picturesque, with a larger freshwater pool with clear, spearmint water and colorful water lilies for grownups and a different heated swimming pool perfect for the kids, complete with an enjoyable play structure that our child made a beeline for. There was even a bigger lagoon (not for swimming) where we could rent an SUP and move on. After an hour of paddling, we sat back on comfy sundecks and swayed in gently swinging hammocks.
Contributing to the dynamic Sunday atmosphere was a bustling weekend market established best beside the swimming pools. We browsed through suppliers providing everything from colorful organic produce and scrumptious local foods to artisanal cheeses and small-batch mezcal. It seemed like a microcosm of San Miguel’s imaginative and culinary spirit, a location where the community collects to share the very best of the regional landscape.

A Sunday Brunch to bear in mind Our weekend culminated in the weekly Sunday brunch, a lively and festive affair that’s popular with residents. The spread was a feast for the senses, including generally ready cochinita pibil (slow-roasted pork), a tasty range of freshly made guisos (stews)served with warm tortillas, and sizzling, grilled Argentinean chorizo. We played scrabble (the restaurant has a series of boardgames) while we had a long, lazy breakfast– exactly how we liked investing our Sundays.
Our Habitas San Miguel de Allende is much more than a high-end hotel– it is an experience that sticks around long after you leave. It’s a place created to peaceful the mind and open the heart, where the concentrate on health, nature, and human connection produces a sanctuary for the soul. For anybody looking for a significant and invigorating escape in the heart of Mexico, this remarkable home is an experience I can not advise highly enough.
