The 6th biggest island in Greece, and the greatest in the Ionian, Kefalonia has the drama of Corfu’s cliffs, the appeal of Ithaca’s misconceptions, and simply adequate modernity to remain linked– if you pick to be. And, just outside Argostoli in the south, near the top of a hill crowned by the ruins of St George’s Castle, lies a collection of rental properties constructed on the foundations of structures ruined by the Great Kefalonia earthquake of 1953. Among them is Angel Pools Villa, a three-bedroomed vacation home run by Kefalonian High-end Villas, and owned by the Andreas Kouris household, where we remained for a couple of days before chartering a yacht from the neighbouring island of Lefkada to the north.

The welcome We showed up late– late adequate that the horizon had long since swallowed the sun and the island had actually hushed into moonlight. However Angela, the property’s name guardian angel(and residential or commercial property supervisor), was waiting at eviction. No fluster, no difficulty– simply a warm smile, disrupted only by the sound of chirping crickets,

and the secrets to a short-lived kingdom. Angela had extremely kindly arranged our taxi from the airport, making our arrival seamless– the kind of thoughtfulness matters more than any thread count ever could. No frenzied GPS-pinning or wrong turns– just a smooth transition from

the airport to this serene escape. The home Coolness is the rental property’s first quiet gift. Kefalonian summertimes are hot-blooded affairs, but action within and you’re welcomed by still, cool air– thanks to thick stone walls (some nearly two feet deep) and peaceful, effective cooling.

The primary area is open, stone-floored, and magnificently extra. A fireplace lounges in one corner, though in the Summer season it’s more ornamental than useful.

We never touched the television– preferring rather to eat in restaurants and enjoy each other’s business– however it exists if you desire it. Just a couple of actions up is the dining area and kitchen: a victory of tradition-meets-tech. Rustic ceiling beams and earthy tones frame Miele devices, a DeLonghi coffee machine, integrated fridge-freezer, and every gadget from

toaster to toasted sandwich maker. This is a cooking area that makes you wish to prepare, if it weren’t for three lovely tavernas within walking range. Angela explained that much of the rental property was meticulously restored from the ruins of buildings lost in the 1953 earthquake that devastated much of Kefalonia. Upstairs are three bedrooms– one double and 2 songs– each with its own en suite shower room. In reality, there’s no queueing for a post-exercise rinse as this residential or commercial property has no less than 5 showers in spite of being three bed rooms– with one stashed simply off the kitchen area and another outside.
