That’s The Vietage.

The Vietage luxury train in Vietnam runs in between Da Nang and Quy Nhon. On a warm March early morning, I boarded with curiosity– and discovered myself leaving with a much deeper connection to this land.

From Mayhem to Calm
Da Nang train station at 7:30 AM is a scene of organized chaos. Motorbikes dart past without any regard for lanes. Suppliers scream, plastic stools wobble under the weight of slurping consumers, and the general public address system blares statements in Vietnamese. Then, out of no place, a greatly dressed attendant from The Vietage appears, and whatever changes.
We’re accompanied to a serene private lounge, calm, peaceful, and far removed from the station’s insanity. Welcome drinks, cool towels, and personal service reduce us into the day. Fellow guests arrive, and we’re talking like old buddies within minutes. That’s the thing about The Vietage: it produces a sort of intimacy that’s hard to make.
And then, it’s time to board.

There are only 6 cubicles, each for 2 visitors. Ours feels like a tiny retreat: a large window,
luxurious seats, a handwritten welcome note, and an amenities kit equipped like a business-class flight. As we depart Da Nang, the chaos starts to decline. I keep an eye out the window to see Vietnam open up– fields of rice, conical-hatted farmers, water buffalo grazing in the early morning light. A soft-spoken host shows up to explain the charging points and Wi-Fi log-in and after that uses warm croissants and coffee. Currently, I know this journey will be different.

. One feature that stayed with me was the family tombs spread across rice paddies. When I asked, among the service staff explained how ancestral praise in rural Vietnam leads households to bury liked ones in the fields they have actually worked for generations. It’s about connection to land, tradition, and protection. That peaceful reverence, juxtaposed with the lush beauty, was humbling.

The train’s rhythm clicks below as experienced hands deliver a head-and-shoulder massage: Fifteen indulgent and remarkable minutes.

Photo courtesy The Vietage A Lunch Worth the Ride Then comes lunch, and I do not state this gently, it was among the best meals I have actually had in Vietnam. We had pre-selected our courses when reserving, and our individualized menus were put on our table, laid with starched linens and refined cutlery. I began with a duck terrine, followed by a meltingly tender braised Wagyu neck, and finished with strawberries from Da Lat paired with coconut yoghurt and Vietnamese basil. Each bite was perfectly well balanced, magnificently plated, and served with the very same care and precision as great dining.

My sparkling brut transitioned seamlessly into a bold Chilean cabernet. And all of it, every bite and sip, framed by Vietnam outside our window. At Journey’s End, A Mild Return Just before 2:30 p.m., we were informed we ‘d soon get to Dieu Tri station, the entrance to the beach resort town of Quy Nhon. No statements. No hurry. Just a quiet word and a knowing smile. Our bags came back, now decorated with leather Vietage-branded tags, and a last treat– train-shaped chocolate in a present box– was handed to each people.
The Vietage personnel had already set up transfers to our next stop. For us, it was the Anantara Quy Nhon Villas, perched quietly on the coast. Others divided off, but we all entrusted to a reverent hush like you might after a significant performance. New-found good friends stating our goodbyes.
My journey ran north to south. A second Vietage service is now readily available, leaving daily from Nha Trang in the afternoon and heading north to Quy Nhon before continuing to Da Nang.

That trip on the Reunification Express was scrappy, raw, and indelibly etched in my memory in its own right. However this? The Vietage was something else entirely.
It’s not practically luxury. It’s about doing things slowly and well. It’s about being advised that travel can still amaze you, not simply with places, but with feelings. The Vietage luxury train in Vietnam isn’t extravagant. It’s thoughtful. And in a world that’s constantly rushing, that’s what makes this trip impressive.
