Does living abroad interest you but you need a little incentive to take the plunge? Here are four European countries that will PAY YOU to move there.

Countries in Europe that will pay you to move there

Italy

Interested in moving to the land of pizza and pasta so you can indulge in “la dolce vita”? Well, the Southern Italian town of Presicce is offering up to 30,000 Euros ($32,000 USD at the current exchange rate) to move there and take up residency. The only “catch”? Interested parties must purchase an abandoned dwelling in the area to be eligible to receive the funds. However, the good news is that the houses up for sale as part of this initiative are relatively cheap– around $25,000 USD. More info and complete eligibility details can be found on the official town website.

Switzerland

If Swiss cheese, chocolate, and mountain ranges are more your thing, you might be interested in the following opportunity to live in Switzerland… and get paid for it. The Swiss village of Albinen is offering up a hefty payout in order to entice families to relocate there: up to $27,000 USD (at the current exchange rate) to adults and up to $11,000 USD to each child. This means that a family of four comprising two adults and two children can potentially receive upwards of $75,000 USD to move to Switzerland! In order to be eligible, applicants, amongst other things, must be under the age of 45 and have the ability to obtain to legal permanent residency status in Switzerland. More information about this program is available on this official website.

Ireland

Contemplating a move to the Emerald Isle? An organization known as Enterprise Ireland is offering up to $106,000 USD (in the form of a convertible note) to entrepreneurs starting their businesses in Ireland. They’ll even offer relocation and visa support to company founders who are non-EU residents! Greece*

Back in 2019 it was widely reported that the tiny Greek island of Antikythera was paying up to $18,000 USD for families to move there. According to reputable outlets such as Travel and Leisure, The Independent, and The Los Angeles Times, the local diocese of the Greek Orthodox Church had started sponsoring people move to the near-deserted island in a bid repopulate it. Their offer? A monthly stipend of approximately $500 USD for up to 3 years, in addition to some land and a house. While a number of news outlets have reported that this program is still active as recently as 2022, no information from an official source could be found at the time of publishing this article. Contacting Greece’s Ministry of Migration and Asylum might be your best bet for an updated status of this initiative.
